Blackfoot River Corridor

Open — The campground is managed by the BLM and appears to be accessible year-round, though winter conditions may affect access on the dirt road.

About

The Blackfoot River Corridor encompasses 12 miles of the Blackfoot River flowing through BLM-managed public lands just 20 minutes east of Missoula. Made famous by Norman Maclean's classic novella 'A River Runs Through It,' this scenic corridor offers a variety of recreation opportunities including car-accessible and float-in camping, fishing, boating, and wildlife viewing. A portion of the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail runs alongside the river, allowing visitors to walk in the footsteps of indigenous peoples and early explorers. The corridor is accessed 12 miles east of Bonner on Highway 200, with Johnsrud Road following the river for 20 miles. The dirt access road is not suitable for RVs. Facilities include campgrounds with drinking water, boat ramps, restrooms, day-use picnic sites, and a non-motorized trail along an old railroad grade. Some sites are accessible to persons with disabilities. While the area sees heavy use during summer months, it becomes quieter during the rest of the year, offering excellent opportunities for fishing, whitewater boating, and wildlife viewing in a more peaceful setting.
