About

Montpelier Canyon Campground is a small, rustic Forest Service campground located three miles east of Montpelier, Idaho on U.S. Highway 89. Nestled along Montpelier Creek at 6,400 feet, the campground sits within dense willow stands that help shelter campsites from traffic noise. The 15 family sites include two tent-only spots and 13 standard sites with picnic tables and vault toilets. The campground serves as a base for fishing Montpelier Creek, which holds rainbow, cutthroat, and brown trout. Montpelier Reservoir is within five miles and offers boating, canoeing, and additional fishing with a boat ramp available. Bear Lake, straddling the Utah-Idaho border, is a 35-minute drive away with extensive water recreation. Roads and parking spurs are gravel and tight, making this campground unsuitable for large RVs or trailers. Campers must bring their own drinking water as none is available on-site.
