About

Emigration Campground is located in Emigration Canyon along State Highway 36, approximately 17 miles west of Montpelier, Idaho, in the Caribou-Targhee National Forest. Situated at 6,400 feet elevation in a forested setting of pine, spruce, and aspen trees, the campground provides access to excellent recreation opportunities including fishing on local streams and the adjacent Highline National Recreation Trail. The Highline Trail is considered the premier trail of the Montpelier District, stretching 55 miles along the backbone of the Bear River Range. It accommodates hikers, mountain bikers, horseback riders, motorcyclists, and off-road vehicle riders, intersecting many other trails on the west side of the district. The campground contains 25 total sites: 20 single-family sites, three double-family sites, and two group sites. Several sites can accommodate 40-foot trailers with pull vehicles. Facilities include vault toilets, drinking water from faucets, picnic tables, and campfire rings. Wild huckleberries are abundant in mid-August, and summer wildflowers dot the landscape throughout the season.

From Montpelier, drive west on U.S. Highway 89 to Ovid, Idaho. At the junction of U.S. 89 and State Highway 36, take the right fork of the Y onto State Highway 36 and travel approximately 12 miles northwest to the campground. A left turn is required to enter.
