About

Clear Creek Guard Station is a historic Forest Service cabin located 20 miles northeast of Montpelier, Idaho in the Caribou-Targhee National Forest. The site has served as an administrative location since 1910, with the current A-frame cabin constructed by the Young Adult Conservation Corps in 1980. Situated at 6,500 feet elevation at the edge of a mixed conifer and aspen forest, the cabin overlooks a meadow near where Crow Creek and Clear Creek meet. The single-room cabin accommodates up to 15 people and includes three single beds, a wood stove for heating, and a table with chairs. Firewood may be available on-site. Outside, guests have access to a vault toilet, picnic table, and campfire ring. Guests must bring their own water, sleeping pads and bedding, lighting, cooking equipment, and garbage bags for pack-out. The surrounding area offers excellent recreation including fishing in Clear Creek, hiking, mountain biking, OHV trails, and hunting in season. Winter visitors enjoy snowmobiling and cross-country skiing. Wildlife in the area includes elk, moose, mule deer, black bear, grizzly bear, wolf, mountain lion, bison, and pronghorn.
