About

Located in William B. Bankhead National Forest, Owl Creek Horse Camp is designed and constructed specifically for stock campers and their animals. The facility provides primitive overnight camping on a first-come, first-served basis for trail riders exploring the Owl Creek Trail System. The trail system offers approximately 26 miles of loops suitable for equestrian riding, starting on Forest Service Road 262 about 7 miles east of Highway 33. This is a primitive horse camp with minimal amenities. Campers should be prepared to bring their own water and supplies. The facility is designed to accommodate horses with appropriate hitching facilities. The camp's location provides access to varying trail loop lengths, allowing riders to customize their experience based on time and skill level. For non-equestrian campers, the Forest Service recommends nearby campgrounds such as Brushy Lake Campground (3 miles south on FSR 262) or the Allred and McDougal Hunt Camps. The camp is managed by the Bankhead Ranger District and operates year-round.
