About

Owl Creek Horse Camp is a primitive equestrian campground located in the William B. Bankhead National Forest in Lawrence County, Alabama. The facility is designed specifically for stock campers, providing overnight sites for trail riders and their animals. The camp features vault toilets but no potable water, so campers must bring their own water supply. The camp serves as the starting point for the Owl Creek Trail System, which offers approximately 26 miles of trails suitable for horseback riding. Trail riders can choose from loops of varying lengths. The trail system begins on Forest Service Road 262 about 7 miles east of Highway 33. Quiet hours are observed from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Non-stock campers are encouraged to use nearby alternatives such as Brushy Lake Campground (approximately 3 miles south on FSR 262) or the Allred and McDougal Hunt Camps.

Directions

From Highway 33, take Forest Service Road 262 east approximately 7 miles. The trail system and camp are located on FSR 262.
