About

McDougal Camp is a primitive hunt camp located in the William B. Bankhead National Forest in Lawrence County, Alabama. This designated camping area serves primarily as a base camp for hunters but is open year-round to all visitors seeking a true backcountry camping experience. The camp provides a rustic setting with no developed amenities, making it ideal for self-sufficient campers who want to immerse themselves in the forest environment. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservation system and no fees required. Campers should come fully prepared with their own water, as potable water is not available on-site. There are no restroom facilities at this location. The camp offers ample space for tent camping and can accommodate vehicles, though this is primitive camping without designated sites or hookups. During hunting season (November 15 to January 31), this area sees increased use from hunters, while non-hunters camping in the general forest during this period must obtain a primitive camping permit from the Bankhead Ranger District Office.
