About

Frijole Horse Corral Campground serves as the primary equestrian staging area on the east side of Guadalupe Mountains National Park. The site accommodates up to 10 people and 10 animals, with four corrals, hitching posts, water troughs, two tent pads, and parking for horse trailers or RVs up to 40 feet. A vault toilet and potable water are available year-round. The campground sits at 5,400 feet elevation in an area of scattered gray oaks, redberry junipers, and desert vegetation with views of Hunter Peak, El Capitan, and Guadalupe Peak. Stock users must obtain a free permit at Pine Springs Visitor Center (8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.) before accessing trails. Designated routes include the Foothills Trail, Frijole Trail, El Capitan Trail, Salt Basin Overlook Trail, Tejas Trail, and portions of the Bush Mountain and McKittrick Canyon trails. Weed-free certified feed is required, and animals must be fed such feed for one week prior to arrival. The campground is approximately 100 yards from US Highway 62/180 and experiences significant traffic noise around the clock. High winds exceeding 50 mph are common, particularly in winter and spring. No fires of any kind are permitted anywhere in the park; only containerized fuel stoves are allowed for cooking.
