Balmorhea State Park

About
Balmorhea State Park sits at the foot of the Davis Mountains in far West Texas, built around San Solomon Springs, which pumps over 15 million gallons of crystal-clear water daily into a 1.75-acre swimming pool. The Civilian Conservation Corps constructed the pool and surrounding facilities in the 1930s, including the historic San Solomon Springs Courts motel. The spring maintains a constant temperature of 72-76°F and is home to several endangered and threatened species including the Comanche Springs pupfish and Pecos gambusia. The park offers 34 campsites divided between back-in sites with 20/30 amp electric service and pull-through sites with 20/30/50 amp service. All sites include a picnic table, outdoor grill, fire ring, and water hookup, with restrooms and showers nearby. The pull-through sites accommodate larger RVs but do not permit tent camping. The surrounding Chihuahuan Desert landscape provides a stark contrast to the lush wetland habitat around the springs. Due to its remote location and unique spring-fed pool, Balmorhea reaches capacity frequently during summer months, weekends, and holidays. Advance reservations are strongly recommended for both camping and day-use swimming. The park serves as a gateway to Big Bend country and the Davis Mountains, offering a refreshing stop for travelers exploring West Texas.
