About

Pine Springs Campground serves as the primary camping area in Guadalupe Mountains National Park, located near the Pine Springs Visitor Center at 5,730 feet elevation. The campground offers spectacular views of the Capitan reef formation and the Permian Basin to the east. Twenty walk-in tent sites feature leveled gravel pads with partial shade from gray oaks and alligator junipers, while 13 paved RV sites accommodate rigs up to 55 feet. The location doubles as a busy trailhead accessing four major trails, including routes to Guadalupe Peak (Texas's highest point), the Bowl, Devil's Hall, and El Capitan. Expect congestion from day hikers searching for parking, particularly during peak seasons (March-May and September-November). Facilities include flush and vault toilets, potable water for filling bottles, and trash receptacles. No hookups, dump stations, or showers are available. Wood and charcoal fires are strictly prohibited year-round due to dry conditions and high winds. Only containerized fuel stoves are permitted. Pets are allowed in the campground on leash but prohibited on most park trails. Night sky visibility is excellent with minimal light pollution.

Directions

From Interstate 10, take the Van Horn, TX exit. Follow TX Hwy 54 north 56 miles to US Hwy 62/180. Turn east and travel 9 miles to the park. From El Paso, follow US 62/180 east for 110 miles. From Carlsbad, NM, take US 62/180 west for 55 miles. The campground entrance is immediately off the highway on the north side near Mile Post 130.
