About

Davis Mountains State Park provides a cool mountain retreat in West Texas at 5,000 to 6,000 feet elevation. Built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s, the park showcases historic stone architecture. The campground offers full hookup sites with water, sewer, and 30/50-amp electric service, electric sites with 20/30-amp hookups and water, water-only sites, and backcountry primitive camping requiring a minimum 4-mile hike with 800 feet of elevation gain. Equestrian camping is available in the Limpia Canyon Primitive Area. The park is known for excellent birding opportunities, including a bird blind with watering and feeding stations. Montezuma quail, hummingbirds, and various songbirds frequent the area. The cool nights year-round make this a popular summer destination for escaping the Texas heat. The historic Indian Lodge, a 39-room pueblo-style motel also built by the CCC, offers additional accommodations with a swimming pool and the Black Bear Restaurant. Reservations are highly recommended as the park frequently reaches capacity.
