Mohican Group Camps & Shelters are located within Mohican Memorial State Forest in Ashland County, Ohio. This 4,525-acre forest surrounds Mohican State Park and features dramatic terrain carved by the Clear Fork of the Mohican River, creating a scenic gorge filled with hemlock groves and native hardwoods including oak, hickory, beech, and maple. The group camping facilities are designed for organized groups seeking a more rustic camping experience. The forest offers extensive recreational opportunities with over 32 miles of trails for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. The area is known for its rugged terrain with long climbs and shallow creek crossings, providing a true wilderness experience while remaining accessible. The forest is adjacent to Mohican State Park and near attractions including Malabar Farm State Park, Pleasant Hill Lake, and Charles Mill Lake. The forest headquarters is located on County Road 939 where campers can complete registration. This area represents one of Ohio's premier outdoor recreation destinations, combining natural beauty with well-maintained trails and facilities.

Directions

From Perrysville, Ohio, take State Route 3 south for approximately 10 miles. Turn right onto County Highway 939 and continue for about 2 miles to reach the Mohican Group Camp.
