About

Missoula Lake Campground offers a semi-remote alpine camping experience at a classic glacial cirque lake in the Superior Ranger District of Lolo National Forest. The 11-acre lake sits at 6,058 feet elevation in the Cedar Creek drainage, with the Montana-Idaho State Line Divide providing a dramatic backdrop. Multiple dispersed camping sites are available near the lake and at a larger camping area further up the access road. Access requires driving approximately 23 miles south from Superior on Cedar Creek Road (Forest Road 320), then a short 0.3-mile hike on Trail 108 to reach the lake. The road and trail conditions mean this destination is best suited for those comfortable with remote backcountry travel. The lake contains rainbow trout, though fishing is reportedly challenging. This is a primitive camping area with minimal development. Campers should be prepared to bring their own water and pack out all trash. The high elevation and remote access road mean the area is typically only accessible during summer and early fall months when snow has cleared.

Directions

From Superior, MT: Take the frontage road south for 1.4 miles to Cedar Creek Road (Forest Road 320). Continue south on Cedar Creek Road for approximately 23 miles to Forest Road 302. A half-mile dirt road leads near the lake, with the trailhead for the 0.3-mile hike to Missoula Lake.
