About

Diamond Lake is a primitive camping area located in the Bitterroot Range within Lolo National Forest, Mineral County, Montana. The site serves primarily as the trailhead for Cliff Lake Trail #100, which begins at the old road bridge on the north side of Diamond Lake. The undeveloped area offers parking for approximately 5-6 vehicles and a vault toilet. The setting provides scenic views of Diamond Lake, Torino Peak, and Eagle Cliff from an open point at the west end of the lake. This is a pack-it-in, pack-it-out area with no potable water, trash service, or developed amenities. Campers should be self-sufficient and prepared for backcountry conditions. Access is via Forest Road 7843 (Diamond Lake Road), reached by taking Interstate 90 to Dry Creek exit #43, turning south on Frontage Road 69, following Dry Creek Road 342 west for 9.5 miles, then turning south on Diamond Lake Road for 4.1 miles. Road conditions may limit access during winter and early spring.

Directions

From Interstate 90, take the Dry Creek exit (#43). Turn south on Dry Creek Frontage Road 69 and follow it to the junction with Dry Creek Road 342. Turn west onto Dry Creek Road and drive 9.5 miles to the junction with Diamond Lake Road 7843. Turn south and drive 4.1 miles to Diamond Lake.
