Kenneth L. Wilson
Closed for the season. Reopens May 15, 2026. Reservations can be made up to 9 months in advance through ReserveAmerica starting at 8am weekdays and 9am weekends.
Special Weather Statement issued May 4 at 3:57AM EDT by NWS Albany NY
The combination of drying fine fuels, southwest wind gusts as high as 25 to 35 mph, and relative humidity values as low as 35 percent will lead to an elevated risk of fire spread today for the Mid-Hudson Valley, eastern Catskills, Taconics, and Greater Capital District, mainly during the afternoon hours. As a reminder, the annual statewide burn ban remains in effect until May 14. No burn permits are issued. Use extra caution if handling any potential ignition sources such as machinery or matches and ensure to properly extinguish or dispose of cigarette butts. Please refer to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation website for more information on burn restrictions.
About
Kenneth L. Wilson Campground sits in the heart of the Catskill Mountains in north central Ulster County, completely surrounded by beautiful mountains with panoramic views. Opened in 1979 on land that was once several farms, the campground offers 76 secluded, wooded tent and trailer sites with modern amenities including flush toilets, hot showers, and a dump station. The centerpiece is a scenic pond where campers can enjoy non-motorized boating, with canoe, kayak, and stand-up paddleboard rentals available on-site. The pond is stocked with largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, chain pickerel, yellow perch, bullheads, and sunfish. An accessible fishing pier and boat launch with a kayak slide provide easy water access. Recreation opportunities abound both within the campground and nearby. An accessible nature trail leads to a viewing platform overlooking the pond, while a mountain bike trail challenges advanced riders. The campground is just a short drive from Slide Mountain Wilderness, the largest wilderness area in the Catskills with 35 miles of hiking trails. The nearby villages of Woodstock and Phoenicia offer dining, shopping, tubing on the Esopus Creek, and cultural attractions. Belleayre and Hunter Mountain ski centers are within 30 minutes.
