About

The group campground at Mille Lacs Kathio State Park offers rustic camping in a wooded setting near the Rum River access. The facility includes two separate group sites designed to accommodate different group sizes. Group Site 1 can host up to 15 people, while the larger Group Site 2 can accommodate up to 45 people. Each site is equipped with multiple tent pads, fire rings, and picnic tables to support group activities and camping. The campground is situated within a National Historic Landmark District that preserves 9,000 years of human activity. While the group sites themselves are rustic, campers have access to the park's extensive amenities, including miles of hiking trails, a 100-foot fire tower with panoramic views, the Kathio Interpretive Center, and water access to the historic Rum River. The park's trail system is popular year-round for hiking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling. The location near the Rum River access provides opportunities for paddling on the slow-current river, which is ideal for family canoe outings. The park also offers rental canoes and kayaks. With its combination of rustic group camping and access to diverse recreational opportunities, the campground serves as an excellent base for extended group outings in any season.
