Mille Lacs Kathio State Park's group campground provides a rustic camping experience along the Rum River on the southwest shore of Mille Lacs Lake. The two group sites are designed for family reunions, Scout troops, and organized groups seeking a natural setting within the park's 10,500 acres of forests and wetlands. Each site includes multiple tent pads, fire rings with grills, and picnic tables. The group camp is located near the Rum River access, providing convenient opportunities for canoeing and kayaking. The park offers 35 miles of hiking trails, a 100-foot observation tower with panoramic views, and access to Ogechie Lake. The area holds significant archaeological importance as a National Historic Landmark. Amenities at the group camp are basic: drinking water and primitive vault toilets are provided, but modern restrooms and showers are not available. Campers should bring their own firewood purchased locally or certified, as moving firewood is restricted to prevent the spread of invasive species.
