About

Cottonwood Lake Campground occupies a scenic setting at 7,000 feet elevation in the Salt River Mountains, nestled beside Cottonwood Lake approximately 13 miles southeast of Afton, Wyoming. North Fork Creek runs through the area where pines and aspens provide partial shade. The campground offers 18 sites across two distinct loops designed for different uses. The west loop caters to equestrian users with six sites featuring hitching rails and three small pipe-rail horse corrals. Water must be carried to the corrals. The east loop accommodates motorized recreation, serving as a trailhead for ATV trails under 50 inches in width, and includes three walk-in tent sites. Site 13 is a reservable group tenting site available through Recreation.gov, while all other sites operate first-come, first-served. Cottonwood Lake provides fishing for brook and cutthroat trout and supports small watercraft, though no boat ramp exists. Trails for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, and ATVs originate from the campground. Note that this is grizzly bear country. Wyoming OHV registration is required for motorized vehicles, and out-of-state horses need a current Coggins test with certified weed-free hay.
