About

Middle Fork of the Powder River Campground sits at 7,500 feet in remote Wyoming backcountry, offering five primitive camping sites along a pristine blue-ribbon trout stream. The campground provides basic amenities including fire rings at each site, a restroom, and drinking water. Use is free with a 14-day stay limit. This area is rich with Old West outlaw history, having served as a hideout for Butch Cassidy and the Wild Bunch in the late 1800s. The Middle Fork of the Powder River provides excellent fishing opportunities along its 12-mile stretch of quality trout water. Access requires navigating primitive roads. From Ten Sleep, drive 20 miles south on State Highway 434 to Big Trails, turn left on Dry Farm Road for about 13 miles to Hazelton Road, then drive approximately 17 miles on two-track dirt road to the campground. A high-clearance vehicle is strongly recommended.
