About

Middle Fork of the Powder River Campground is a remote BLM campground located at 7,500 feet elevation along the Middle Fork of the Powder River, known for its blue-ribbon trout fishing. The campground offers five primitive camping sites, each equipped with a fire ring. Basic amenities include a vault toilet and drinking water. Camping is free with a 14-day stay limit, as with all BLM public lands. Access to the campground is challenging and requires a high-clearance vehicle, preferably 4WD. From Ten Sleep, drive 20 miles south on State Highway 434 to Big Trails, then turn left on graveled Dry Farm Road for about 13 miles to Hazelton Road. From there, it's approximately 17 miles on two-track dirt road to reach the campground. The remote location and difficult access make this an ideal destination for visitors seeking solitude and backcountry camping. The area offers excellent opportunities for fishing, hiking, and wildlife viewing. The Ed O. Taylor area has seasonal closures from January 1 through May 14 for wildlife protection, as it serves as elk and deer winter forage range. The campground operates seasonally from May through September when weather and road conditions permit.
