About
Leigh Creek Campground is nestled among the pines at the bottom of Leigh Canyon on the west side of scenic Cloud Peak Skyway, about 35 miles east of Worland, Wyoming. The campground sits on the banks of Tensleep Creek at 5,400 feet elevation, surrounded by a forest of lodgepole pine. Nearby interpretive signs explain the geology of the white limestone cliffs of Tensleep Canyon, and Tensleep Creek offers excellent fly fishing opportunities. The surrounding area provides diverse recreational opportunities including off-highway vehicle trails, scenic jeep roads, and hiking trails that vary from loop trails to treks along creeks and over mountain peaks. Many trails access the Cloud Peak Wilderness, which is 14 miles northeast of the campground. Meadowlark Lake is about 11 miles away and allows motorized craft at wake-less speed, while West Tensleep Lake is 14 miles northeast and open to non-motorized craft only. Both lakes are great for canoeing and fishing. The historic High Park Lookout, built by the CCC decades ago, offers panoramic views and is accessible via a short hike east of Meadowlark Lake.
Directions
From Ten Sleep, drive 7.5 miles on Highway 16 to Forest System Road 18 (Wyoming Highway 435). Bear right and travel about 1 mile to the campground.
