Open — Open year-round on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations. Winter road conditions may make access difficult or impossible. Check road conditions before traveling.

About

Buffalo Creek Campground is a small, primitive Bureau of Land Management campground situated along the scenic South Bighorn/Red Wall Back Country Byway in central Wyoming. The campground offers four first-come, first-served campsites in a remote, secluded setting approximately 24 miles north of Arminto. The campground provides basic amenities including a vault toilet and fire rings at each site. It is partially accessible and completely free of charge. Campers should note that no water is available on-site, so bringing adequate drinking water is essential. The campground's location along the Back Country Byway makes it an ideal base for exploring the surrounding BLM lands, with opportunities for hiking, wildlife viewing, and experiencing Wyoming's backcountry. Access to the campground requires traveling on the South Bighorn/Red Wall Back Country Byway and Bighorn Mountain Road. Due to its remote location and elevation, seasonal road conditions may affect accessibility, particularly during winter and spring months when snow and mud can make the byway impassable.

Directions

From Arminto, take the South Bighorn/Red Wall Back Country Byway north for 13.5 miles to Bighorn Mountain Road. Turn left and go 9.5 miles north to the campground on the left.
