About

Memaloose State Park occupies a scenic position on the east end of the Columbia River Gorge, approximately 11 miles west of The Dalles. The campground overlooks the Columbia River and Memaloose Island, which holds deep spiritual significance to the indigenous peoples of the region who used it as a burial site. Spring brings vibrant wildflowers while summer evenings offer excellent stargazing from the grassy meadows. The park provides 109 campsites divided between 66 tent sites with water nearby and 43 full-hookup RV sites with electric, water, and sewer connections. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring. Facilities include flush restrooms, hot showers, a playground, and an amphitheater. The campground sits adjacent to Interstate 84 and an active rail line, so campers should expect road and train noise at all hours. Memaloose serves as a convenient base for exploring the Historic Columbia River Highway State Trail. The Hood River to Mosier section is accessible from the park. Firewood is available for purchase within the park, as collecting firewood is prohibited and campers should use locally sourced or heat-treated wood due to emerald ash borer quarantine restrictions.
