About
Lower Eightmile Crossing Campground sits along the banks of Eightmile Creek in the eastern reaches of Mount Hood National Forest, accessed via Forest Road 44 from Dufur. This small 3-site campground offers a quiet, primitive camping experience with light usage, making it ideal for those seeking solitude in the forested foothills east of the Cascade crest. The campground provides vault toilets but no potable water, so campers should come prepared with adequate water supplies. Sites accommodate vehicles up to 16 feet in length only, making this unsuitable for larger RVs or trailers. Activities include stream fishing in Eightmile Creek, horseback riding, and hiking the Eightmile Interpretive Trail which connects this campground to the nearby Eightmile Campground. Operating seasonally from late May through mid-October, the campground is first-come, first-served with no advance reservations. Overnight camping costs $20 per night for a single site with an additional $10 per night for extra vehicles. Interagency Senior and Access pass holders receive a 50% discount on single site fees.
Directions
From Dufur, take Forest Road 44 west about 15 miles, then north 1 mile on Forest Road 4440.
