About

Upper Eightmile Campground is a seasonal campground located in the Barlow Ranger District of Mount Hood National Forest, positioned near the popular 44 Trail System along Forest Road 44. This primitive campground appeals to outdoor enthusiasts seeking a quieter, more remote camping experience in the eastern slopes of Mount Hood. The campground's main attraction is its direct access to Eightmile Loop Trail #496, an approximately 6-mile loop that is popular with both hikers and mountain bikers. The trail system in this area is maintained through a partnership with the 44 Trails Association, and the network offers multiple trail options for various skill levels. The location also provides access to Eightmile Creek for fishing opportunities. As a more primitive facility, the campground offers vault toilets but no potable water, so campers must bring their own. The campground operates seasonally from late May through mid-October, with the surrounding forest roads subject to winter closures due to snow. Sites accommodate vehicles up to 30 feet and are available for $30 per night, with an additional $10 fee for extra vehicles. Day use is also available for $10 per vehicle.
