Big Springs Warming Hut is located in Island Park, Idaho at 6,300 feet elevation, surrounded by dense lodgepole pine forests. The facility can accommodate up to 200 people in a fully enclosed building with concrete floor, wood-burning stove, electrical outlets, overhead lighting, and several picnic tables. Outside amenities include additional picnic tables, grills, and a campfire circle. A very large parking area provides 20-amp electric hookups along the edge. The warming hut is situated near Big Springs, one of the largest springs in the country and the headwaters of Henry's Fork, considered one of the nation's best fisheries for rainbow and brook trout. The Big Springs National Recreation Water Trail offers a lazy three-hour float through beautiful scenery where moose, bald eagles, and Sandhill cranes are often spotted. The area features more than 300 miles of groomed snowmobile trails, along with extensive opportunities for hiking, biking, horseback riding, and ATV use on trails including the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail. Island Park sits within two extinct volcanic calderas, creating diverse terrain of broad grassy meadows and dense forests teeming with wildlife including black and grizzly bears, moose, elk, and deer. Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks are within a short drive, while Island Park Reservoir and Henry's Lake offer additional water recreation opportunities.

Directions

From West Yellowstone, Montana, travel 22 miles south on Highway 20 to Mack's Inn. Turn east on Big Springs Loop Road and travel 2 miles to the warming hut access road. Turn south into the warming hut parking area.
