About

McBride Canyon and Mullinaw Creek Campgrounds provide free primitive camping experiences south of Lake Meredith in the Texas Panhandle. These adjacent areas feature approximately 40 dispersed camping sites shaded by large cottonwood trees, offering respite from the hot Texas sun. Both campgrounds operate on a first-come, first-served basis with no fees or reservations required. The Mullinaw Creek area features the expanded Mullinaw Trails System, open to hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. Horse corrals are available at Mullinaw Campground for equestrians. Off-road vehicles are prohibited throughout the area. Each campground provides basic amenities including picnic tables, shade shelters, grills, and vault toilets, but no potable water or flush toilets are available. The campgrounds are accessible via unpaved dirt roads off State Highway 136, which can become impassable during wet weather. Trailers and RVs are accommodated at several sites throughout the campgrounds. The remote location provides a peaceful camping experience away from the busier lakefront areas, though campers do not have direct lake access from these campgrounds.
