About

Blue Creek sits in the Big Blue Creek drainage on the northwest side of Lake Meredith National Recreation Area in the Texas Panhandle. This primitive campground caters specifically to off-road vehicle enthusiasts and horseback riders, offering one of only two authorized ORV use areas within the recreation area. The landscape features mature cottonwood and soapberry trees providing natural shade throughout the camping area. Facilities are minimal by design. The campground provides vault-evaporator toilets but no potable water, showers, or hookups. Campers should come fully prepared with their own water supply and plan to pack out all trash following Leave No Trace principles. Off-road vehicle use is permitted exclusively in the creek bed and requires a special use permit obtainable from park headquarters. The campground operates year-round on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations accepted. Camping is free of charge. Access is via unpaved roads, which may present challenges for low-clearance vehicles and limits accessibility for mobility-impaired visitors. RVs and trailers are permitted at several sites, though drivers should be prepared for primitive road conditions.

Directions

From Amarillo, exit Loop 335 North, then exit Hwy 136 North to Fritch. From the North, take FM 1913 from the Dumas Highway or FM 1913 from US 287. The campground is located on the northwest side of the lake off FM 1913.
