About
Chimney Hollow Campground is a primitive camping area situated in a sheltered location along the Blue Creek embankment at Lake Meredith National Recreation Area. The campground's tucked-in position provides natural protection from the strong prevailing winds common to the Texas Panhandle, making it a more comfortable camping option in this exposed region. The campground features 15 first-come-first-served sites equipped with picnic tables. As a truly primitive facility, there is no drinking water, electricity, or modern restroom facilities. Vault toilets are provided. Campers must be completely self-sufficient, bringing all necessary water and supplies. The remote nature of this campground appeals to those seeking solitude and an off-the-grid experience. Free camping at Chimney Hollow requires adherence to the 14-day limit within any 30-day period at Lake Meredith. The Texas Panhandle climate varies significantly, with cold, windy winters and hot, dry summers. Visitors should prepare for wind regardless of season and check current conditions before arrival, as lake levels and access can fluctuate.
