* WHAT...Dangerously hot conditions with heat index values between 105 and 110 degrees expected each day. * WHERE...In Delaware, Kent, Delaware Beaches, and Inland Sussex Counties. In Maryland, Caroline, Kent MD, Queen Annes, and Talbot Counties. * WHEN...From noon Thursday to 8 PM EDT Saturday. * IMPACTS...Heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Very warm low temperatures in the mid 70s to near 80 degrees at night will not offer much relief from the heat. This combined with multiple days of near record breaking temperatures will exacerbate the impacts from the heat and humidity. The hottest conditions are expected to occur on Friday.

The Maryland Department of the Environment has issued a code orange air quality alert Thursday for Talbot and Caroline Counties in Maryland. A code orange air quality alert means that air pollution concentrations within the region may become unhealthy for sensitive groups. Sensitive groups include children...people suffering from asthma... heart disease or other lung diseases...and the elderly. The effects of air pollution can be minimized by avoiding strenuous activity or exercise outdoors. Martinak State Park, located along the Choptank River and Watts Creek in Denton, Maryland, offers a serene camping experience amidst hardwood and pine forests. The park features 63 campsites suitable for tents and trailers, with 30 sites equipped with electric hookups. Each campsite includes a camping pad, picnic table, and fire ring. Modern bathhouses are centrally located within each camping loop, and potable water is conveniently available throughout the campground. While water hookups are not provided at individual sites, a dump station is available for trailer use. The park also offers six camper cabins and one full-service cottage. The camper cabins are equipped with electricity, heating, air conditioning, and ceiling fans, and are available for rental from early spring through late fall. The full-service Choptank Cottage overlooks the river and is available year-round, featuring a fully equipped kitchen, bath facilities, heating, air conditioning, and a screened-in porch. Pets are permitted in all areas of the park except the shelter and cabins, with the exception of the Dogwood and Fir camper cabins, where pets are allowed. Recreational opportunities abound, including hiking trails, playgrounds, a nature center, and boating access. Anglers can enjoy fishing for bass, perch, sunfish, and catfish in the Choptank River and Watts Creek. A boat launch and pier provide easy access to the waterways. The park's amphitheater, situated on Watts Creek, is suitable for various events and offers accessible parking. Picnic areas with tables, playground equipment, and restrooms are available, and a pavilion overlooking the Choptank River can be reserved in advance for a fee. The park's nature center offers educational programs and exhibits, enhancing visitors' understanding of the local environment. Martinak State Park provides a tranquil setting for campers seeking a blend of relaxation and outdoor activities.

Directions

From Denton, Maryland, take Route 404 east for approximately 2 miles. Turn right onto Deep Shore Road and continue for about 1 mile to reach the park entrance.
