About
Marshall Park Campground sits in an open meadow along the Rio Grande River with panoramic views of Bristol Head Peak and the La Garita Mountains. Located 7 miles southwest of Creede at 8,800 feet elevation, this campground offers convenient access directly off Highway 149, making it the closest Forest Service campground to town and popular with through travelers and overnight campers alike. The campground consists of 16 sites arranged in a large blacktopped loop, including 7 paved pull-through sites and 9 gravel dead-end spurs. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring. The campground is open with few trees, meaning cool early mornings with sun hitting most sites by late morning, but limited afternoon shade. Due to its proximity to Highway 149, road traffic is visible and audible. Maximum trailer length is 40 feet, and sites are accessible by passenger car. Anglers will find excellent fishing opportunities in the Rio Grande River, considered a trophy trout river. The campground provides ADA-accessible fishing access with a boat launch, and the river welcomes wading and exploration. Off-road vehicle trails are nearby, including the Lost Trail that runs 11 miles with stunning mountain views. The campground tends to fill from mid-June through August and serves as an excellent base camp for exploring historic Creede and the surrounding Rio Grande National Forest. A campground host is typically stationed on-site during the operating season, and firewood is available for purchase.

From Creede, travel 7 miles west on Colorado Highway 149 to Forest Road 523. Take Forest Road 523 one mile to the campground entrance.
