About
Silver Thread Campground sits at 9,500 feet elevation along Colorado State Highway 149, positioned approximately halfway between Creede and Lake City on the scenic Silver Thread Scenic Byway. This small, single-loop campground features 10 sites, including several level pull-through sites that accommodate RVs and make it an ideal overnight stop for travelers. The campground is surrounded by aspen trees that provide shade, with spruce-covered hillsides in the background. The location offers excellent access to recreation opportunities including fishing in South Clear Creek and nearby Brown Lakes. A highlight is the easy 0.25-mile trail from the back of the campground to South Clear Creek Falls, a beautiful waterfall that's perfect for a quick hike. The area is bear country, so proper food storage is required at all times. The campground operates year-round with seasonal services. During the main season from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend, a camp host is present, and water and trash services are provided. In the off-season, the campground remains open on a first-come, first-served basis with reduced fees, but campers must bring their own water and pack out all trash. Winter access may be limited by snow levels.

From Creede: Take State Highway 149 south toward Lake City for 23 miles to the campground sign, turn right. From Lake City: Take State Highway 149 south toward Creede over Slumgullion Pass and Spring Creek Pass for 29 miles, turn left at the campground sign.
