About

Road Canyon Campground is a small, secluded option when other Rio Grande Reservoir Road campgrounds are full. Situated at 9,300 feet at the head of Road Canyon Reservoir, the campground occupies a fully open meadow with no tree screening from the road. Each of the six sites features a parking spur, picnic table, and fire ring. The campground provides access to Road Canyon Reservoir, where boats are permitted with trolling motors only and no wakes. The reservoir is stocked with rainbow trout and supports natural brook trout populations. A primitive boat ramp is available. Fishing and wildlife viewing are primary activities. Facilities are minimal: a vault toilet is provided but there is no potable water, firewood, or trash receptacles. Campers must pack out all trash. Bear country food storage regulations apply April 1 through December 1. An undeveloped overflow camping area is located directly across the road.

Directions

From Creede, travel southwest on Highway 149 for approximately 20 miles to the intersection with Forest Road 520 (Rio Grande Reservoir Road). Turn west on FR 520 and drive almost 6 miles to the campground.
