About
Crooked Creek Dispersed Area is a no-fee dispersed camping site located in the Rio Grande National Forest near Creede, Colorado. The facility consists of 4 rough level dirt pull-outs on the south side of Forest Road 520, suitable for both trailers and tents. A single pit toilet is available across the road from the campsites. The area can accommodate 1 to 4 camping parties and typically experiences light usage. Situated along Crooked Creek at approximately 19 miles west of Creede via State Highway 149, then 2 miles west on Forest Road 520, this dispersed site offers a quiet camping experience in the national forest. Stream fishing is available in Crooked Creek. Campers must bring their own water as no potable water is available on-site. The area is open year-round but becomes inaccessible due to snow from December 1 through May 1. Forest Road 520 is not maintained for winter travel during this period, making the site effectively closed to vehicle access during winter months.
Directions
From Creede, Colorado take State Highway 149 west for 19 miles. Turn left and travel west on Forest Road 520 for another 2 miles. The campsites are on the left or south side of the main road.
