About
Marble Mountain Group Picnic Site is a day-use group picnic shelter located at the Marble Mountain SnoPark in Gifford Pinchot National Forest, on the south side of Mount St. Helens. The 1,000 sq ft shelter, built in 2018, contains three large picnic tables and a wood stove for heating. The facility is wired for electricity to power lights, outlets, and fans, though visitors must provide their own generator and 110V connector cord. No potable water is available on site. The site operates as a reservable day-use area on Saturdays only from mid-June through mid-September. During winter months (November through March), the area functions as a Washington State SnoPark for snowmobilers and cross-country skiers. Overnight camping and overnight parking are strictly prohibited. The gate is locked when the site is not rented; reservation holders receive access codes. Nearby attractions include the Worm Flows climbing route to Mount St. Helens, the Loowit Trail, Ape Cave, June Lake Trail, and Lava Canyon Trail. The area is popular with mountain bikers who ride the Ape Canyon-Smith Creek loop. The Lahar Viewpoint interpretive site is located just up Forest Road 83.
