About

Kalama Horse Camp is a purpose-built equestrian campground located on Forest Road 81, just outside the west boundary of Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument. The facility caters primarily to horse and pack animal users, with 16 reservable equestrian sites featuring wood or metal corrals that accommodate 2-4 horses, plus hitching posts and mounting blocks. Ten additional standard sites are available first-come, first-served for non-equestrian campers. The campground provides direct trail access via a loop trail connecting to the main trailhead, which leads to Toutle Trail #238, Cinnamon Trail #204, and Fossil Trail #242. Over 50 miles of trails and closed roads are accessible from camp. A separate day-use trailhead parking area is located at the east end of the campground. Sites feature driveways ranging from 20 to 70 feet in both pull-through and back-in configurations. The Upper Loop includes larger group sites accommodating 2-3 trailers. Each site has a picnic table. Vault toilets and horse water are available, but there is no potable water for humans. Certified weed-free feed is required for all stock animals.
