Main Campground at Little Missouri State Park is situated in the heart of western North Dakota's dramatic Badlands landscape, offering visitors a quiet oasis to explore over 6,000 acres of rugged terrain. The campground provides a range of camping options, from modern sites with electrical hookups to primitive sites for those seeking a more backcountry experience. The park is particularly popular among equestrian enthusiasts, featuring 81 horse corrals, a round pen, and designated horse trails throughout the property. With over 40 miles of trails winding through the picturesque badlands, visitors can enjoy breathtaking views of waterways cutting through the colorful, layered rock formations. The trails accommodate both hikers and horseback riders, providing access to terrain that ranges from gentle riverside paths to challenging badlands hills. The park's location along the Little Missouri River near its confluence with Lake Sakakawea creates a unique ecological zone where badlands wildlife including deer, coyotes, eagles, and hawks can be observed. The campground includes modern amenities such as a pay shower house, RV dump station, vault toilets, and three picnic shelters available for rent. Campers can reserve sites up to 95 days in advance through the North Dakota Parks reservation system. The park's remote setting and expansive trail network make it an ideal destination for those looking to truly unplug and experience North Dakota's backcountry beauty.
