About

Beautiful Magnolia Springs State Park encompasses over 1,070 acres between Perkins and Millen in Jenkins County, Georgia. The park is named for its crystal-clear springs that flow 7 million gallons of water per day, creating a stunning natural centerpiece. A boardwalk spans the cool spring water, allowing visitors to observe alligators, turtles, and other wildlife in their natural habitat. The park also features a small fishing lake, hiking trails, and seasonal splashpad. During the Civil War, this site was known as Camp Lawton and served as the world's largest prison. While little remains of the prison stockade today, earthen breastworks that guarded it are still visible. In 2010, Georgia Southern University archaeology teams uncovered the stockade wall and numerous personal articles from soldiers, discoveries heralded as some of the most significant Civil War finds in recent history. Artifacts are displayed at the Camp Lawton History Museum located within the park. Overnight accommodations include 26 tent/trailer/RV campsites with water and electric hookups, 3 walk-in tent sites, 9 fully furnished cottages with central HVAC and satellite TV, and a 16-person group lodge. The park is part of Georgia's Muddy Spokes Club, featuring a 3-mile biking loop. Recreational activities include fishing, paddling and biking (both with rentals available), geocaching, and picnicking with multiple shelters available. The park offers Wi-Fi in the visitor center and is located near other state parks including George L. Smith and Hamburg.
