About

George L. Smith State Park is a secluded retreat in south Georgia's piney flatwoods, centered around the 412-acre Parrish Mill Pond. The historic Parrish Mill, built in 1880, remains the park's centerpiece and is one of only a handful of combination gristmill-sawmill-covered bridge structures still standing in Georgia. The millpond's tea-colored waters, dotted with bald cypress and tupelo, create an atmospheric setting for paddling and fishing. The campground offers 18 tent, trailer, and RV campsites with electric hookups, many positioned along the pond's edge. Modern comfort stations provide hot showers and flush toilets. A dump station is available. Cottages with gas fireplaces and screened porches are nestled in the surrounding woods for those seeking more amenities. Four primitive walk-in sites and a pioneer campground serve groups. Paddling is the main draw. Kayak and canoe rentals make it easy to explore the millpond's quiet coves and cypress stands. Anglers target largemouth bass, crappie, and catfish. A 7-mile trail system loops through longleaf pine habitat and along the pond shore.
