About

George L. Smith State Park spans 1,634 acres in Emanuel County, Georgia, four miles southeast of Twin City off Georgia Highway 23. The park is best known for its refurbished Parrish Mill and Pond, a combination gristmill, sawmill, covered bridge and dam constructed in 1880. The serene, cypress-filled waters of the mill pond create a tranquil escape where natural beauty meets historical significance. The campground features 24 tent, trailer and RV campsites with water and electric hookups, many positioned directly on the water's edge. The park also offers 10 cottages with gas fireplaces and screened porches tucked into the woods, along with a pioneer campground, conference center, and four picnic shelters. A new 30-site campground with upgraded amenities including full hookup sites is currently under construction. The 412-acre mill pond beckons anglers and paddlers to explore thick stands of cypress and tupelo trees draped with Spanish moss. Kayak and canoe rentals are available when water levels permit. Seven miles of trails wind through the park, offering opportunities to spot gopher tortoises (Georgia's state reptile), beaver dams, blue herons, white ibis and other wading birds. The park has a 10 horsepower limit for boats and provides opportunities for fishing, birding, geocaching, and biking.
