About

Big Hank Campground is located in a heavily wooded area along the North Fork of the Coeur d'Alene River within Idaho Panhandle National Forest. At 2,800 feet elevation, the campground sits on Big Hank Meadow where Big Hank Creek meets the river. The facility offers approximately 30 spacious campsites designed for tent camping, with paved roads and parking spurs throughout. The campground underwent logging in 2021 to remove hazard trees, and hazard tree removal continues as needed for public safety. Major renovations are planned using Great American Outdoors Act funding. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring. Drinking water is available from hand pumps, and vault toilets serve the campground. Recreation opportunities center around the river, with shore fishing for cutthroat trout being particularly popular. Summer activities include tubing and whitewater rafting on class I-III rapids. Hiking, biking, and horseback riding trails are a short drive away, with highlights including trails to Centennial Falls, Shadow Falls, and the ancient cedars of Settler's Grove. Wildlife viewing is excellent, with frequent sightings of mule deer, moose, osprey, and calliope hummingbirds. The campground also provides an excellent base for hunters during hunting season.
