About

Devils Elbow Campground is perched on the banks of the North Fork Coeur d'Alene River in Idaho's Panhandle National Forests, providing a classic riverside camping experience among lodgepole and mixed conifers at 2,600 feet elevation. The campground features 19 standard sites plus one group site accommodating up to 50 people, with paved campground roads and parking spurs wide enough for two vehicles alongside a trailer. The river draws visitors for rafting, kayaking, and swimming, with Class I-III rapids available further downstream. Catch-and-release cutthroat trout fishing is popular, and the surrounding river valley offers hiking opportunities to nearby Downey Creek and Valitons Creek. Wildlife watchers may spot mule deer, moose, osprey, and calliope hummingbirds in the area. The campground is located 69 miles from Coeur d'Alene Lake and is operated by Scenic Canyons Recreational Services under permit from the Forest Service. Reservations are available through Recreation.gov, with some first-come, first-served sites also available.
