About
Lower Goodell Group Campground is a secluded group camping facility situated on the banks of Goodell Creek near the town of Newhalem in Ross Lake National Recreation Area. The campground offers 2 group sites, each designed to accommodate up to 50 people and 20 vehicles. Each site contains 5 designated areas for tents or small RVs, a covered picnic pavilion with tables, a fire grate, vault toilet, and bear-resistant food storage boxes. The campground is set within a shaded forest of western redcedar, western hemlock, and Douglas-fir, with wild red huckleberries and native shrubs throughout. Goodell Creek flows through the property, and the larger Skagit River is nearby. The Skagit is the largest river flowing into Puget Sound and provides critical habitat for all species of Pacific salmon, with bald eagles returning to its shores each winter. Recreation opportunities include hiking trails at nearby Newhalem Creek Campground, fishing and rafting access on the Skagit River at Goodell Creek Campground, and proximity to the North Cascades Visitor Center. The campground is located within a hydro-electric project area with a warning system for high water conditions. Black bears are active in the area, making proper food storage in the provided bear boxes essential.
