About

Newhalem Creek Campground is a well-developed facility within Ross Lake National Recreation Area, offering 107 individual campsites in loops A, B, and C, plus 2 group sites that accommodate up to 30 people each. The campground is situated in a dense forest of western redcedar, western hemlock, and Douglas-fir, with red huckleberries and native vegetation throughout. Located near both Newhalem Creek and the Skagit River, the largest river flowing into Puget Sound, the campground provides access to seasonal salmon viewing areas along the River Loop Trail. The campground features a mix of drive-in and walk-in tent sites, with many sites capable of accommodating RVs and trailers up to 50 feet. Each campsite includes a picnic table, fire ring, and most have tent pads. Bear-resistant food lockers are provided at each site due to active black bear presence. Facilities include flush toilets, potable water, a dump station, trash and recycling service, and paved roads and driveways. Two ADA-accessible drive-in campsites are available. The campground has no showers or electrical hookups. The North Cascades Visitor Center is located half a mile away by trail or road, offering exhibits, passport stamps, a park film, and a park store. The town of Newhalem, one mile east, provides the nearest services. A network of short, interpretive hiking trails connects the campground to both the visitor center and town, offering easy access to explore the forested landscape and river corridor.
