About
Located in the Sierra National Forest along Chiquito Creek, Lower Chiquito Campground offers a peaceful mountain retreat shaded by cedar and pine trees. This small campground provides basic amenities with each site featuring a picnic table, grill, and fire ring. At approximately 7,000 feet elevation, the area experiences heavy use during the summer season. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no advance reservations, making it ideal for spontaneous trips during the June through September season. Vault toilets are provided, but campers should note there is no potable water on-site and must bring their own supply. The nearest services including camping supplies, food, gas, and fishing gear can be found at Wagner's Store. Access requires traveling 35.3 miles from North Fork on Minarets Road (Forest Road 81), then turning onto Road 6S71 for 2.8 miles, and finally Road 6S01 for 0.8 miles to reach the campground. The remote location and creek-side setting make it popular with campers seeking a quiet forest experience, though visitors should bring mosquito repellant during the summer months.
