Lovewell State Park

About

Lovewell State Park occupies the western shores of Lovewell Reservoir, a 2,900-acre impoundment of White Rock Creek in Jewell County, Kansas. The reservoir is known for excellent walleye fishing, along with white bass, channel catfish, and crappie. Five distinct campground areas serve different camping preferences: Walleye Point and South Willow remain open year-round, while Cedar Point, Cottonwood, and North Willow operate seasonally. The park provides nearly 400 campsites total, including 28 full-hookup sites with freeze-proof water and sewer connections, 90 water/electric sites, 36 electric-only sites, and 240 primitive campsites. Every campsite includes a picnic table and fire ring. Centrally located facilities include four shower-restroom buildings, two vault toilets, and two dump stations. A year-round unisex shower and restroom is available at the park maintenance building. Beyond camping, visitors enjoy the swimming beach, two boat ramps, a disc golf course, archery range, sand volleyball courts, and playground. The park hosts annual events including a Kids Fishing Clinic in June, fireworks in July, and Lovewell Fun Day in August. Nine cabins are also available for rent, including four pet-friendly rustic cabins and five deluxe cabins.

Directions

From Mankato, KS: 4 miles east on US Highway 36, then 9 miles north on KS Highway 14. Turn east at Highway 14 and Y Road, travel 4 miles east on Y Road, then turn south at the 4-way stop. Park office entrance is 0.5 mile south on the left. From Superior, NE: 8 miles south on KS Highway 14, turn east at Highway 14 and Y Road, travel 4 miles east, turn south at the 4-way stop.
