Mormon Island State Recreation Area sits at the intersection of convenience and recreation along Interstate 80 in south-central Nebraska. The park encompasses three lakes created from former sand and gravel pits, now transformed into a multi-use recreation area with camping, fishing, swimming, and boating opportunities. The campgrounds are divided into distinct areas including Cedar Campground and Cottonwood Campground, accommodating everything from tent campers to large RVs up to 75 feet. Camping options include Electric Plus sites with dedicated water hookups, standard Electric sites with 20/30/50 amp service, and Basic sites for those seeking a more primitive experience. All developed sites feature picnic tables and fire rings. Modern amenities include flush restrooms, pay showers, a dump station, and laundry facilities. The recreation area also offers accessible camping at Sites 56 and 73 in Cedar Campground with ADA-compliant features. Fishing is a primary draw with largemouth bass, walleye, channel catfish, and bluegill available in the lakes. Non-powered and electric motor boats are permitted with boat ramp access available. A swimming beach with change houses provides summer cooling, and picnic shelters and playgrounds serve day-use visitors.

Directions

From Interstate 80, take Exit 312 south on US Highway 281. The recreation area entrance is approximately 1 mile south on the east side of the highway.
