Located in the Rocky Mountain foothills west of Fort Collins, Lory State Park offers a true backcountry camping experience for those willing to hike for their adventure. The park features six primitive hike-in campsites, each requiring a minimum two-mile one-way hike to reach. This 2,492-acre park is known for its 26 miles of trails that wind through rolling valleys and mountainous hillsides, popular for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. The backcountry campsites are basic and primitive, with no water, restrooms, or tent pads available. Campfires are prohibited, though small camp stoves are permitted. Campers must pack in all necessary supplies, including water, and pack out everything they bring. The sites accommodate a maximum of six people and allow leashed pets. No vehicle-based camping or dispersed camping is permitted, and overnight parking is only allowed for those with valid campsite reservations. Lory State Park is open year-round for camping, though between the Tuesday after Labor Day and the Friday before Memorial Day, campsites are only reservable for Friday and Saturday nights. Directions

From Fort Collins, take US 287 north to County Road 54G (LaPorte). Turn left onto CR52E/Rist Canyon Rd. Continue west and turn left onto County Road 23. Continue south and take a right on Lodgepole Drive (CR 25G). The park is approximately 1.6 miles up Lodgepole Drive on the left.
