About
Lower Narrows Campground is an eight-site walk-in tent camping area situated along the Cache la Poudre River in Roosevelt National Forest, 32 miles northwest of Fort Collins along Highway 14. The campground is located in a ponderosa pine setting where the canyon terrain drops steeply to the river. Each site includes a 12x15-foot tent pad, picnic table, bear locker, fire grate with grill, accommodating up to eight people per site. Parking is provided separately from the campsites, with footpaths leading to individual camping areas. The Cache la Poudre River, Colorado's first designated National Wild and Scenic River, flows adjacent to the campground and offers excellent opportunities for whitewater rafting and fishing for brown, cutthroat, and rainbow trout. The surrounding area features hiking, biking, and horseback riding trails including the Mt. McConnel Trail, William R. Kreutzer National Recreation Trail, and Young Gulch Trail. The canyon's vegetation varies from dense forests to open meadows, surrounded by steep mountains, providing excellent birding and wildlife viewing opportunities in this scenic mountain setting.
