Continued hot and sunny weather conditions may allow ozone concentrations to reach the Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups category on Tuesday and Wednesday. The transport of wildfire smoke may increase particle pollution levels, reaching the Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups category, or worse, at times. About
Lower Narrows Campground occupies a scenic stretch of the Cache la Poudre River corridor in the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests, about 30 miles northwest of Fort Collins along Highway 14. The eight walk-in tent sites are set among ponderosa pines at 6,400 feet, with foot paths leading from a central parking area to individual campsites. Each site comes equipped with a 12x15-foot tent pad, picnic table, fire grate with grill, and a bear locker for food storage. The Cache la Poudre is Colorado's only nationally designated Wild and Scenic River, offering outstanding fishing for rainbow and brown trout, whitewater rafting, and access to hiking trails. The diverse landscape transitions from dense forests to open meadows, supporting varied wildlife. The nearby Upper Narrows section has six additional sites that can accommodate vehicles up to 30-50 feet, but Lower Narrows remains exclusively tent camping. This is bear country, so campers must keep a clean camp and use the provided bear lockers. Dogs are allowed but must remain on a hand-held leash at all times. Reservations are available through Recreation.gov, and sites must be occupied within 26 hours of the reservation start time or they revert to first-come, first-served availability.
Directions
From Fort Collins, drive 10 miles north on Highway 287, then turn left (west) onto Highway 14 and continue 20 miles. The campground is on the south side of the highway adjacent to the Cache la Poudre River.
