This order describes the prohibition of wheeled vehicles in all National Forest Wilderness Areas of the Rocky Mountain Region and any exceptions thereof.

About

Mountain Park Campground occupies a scenic stretch along the Cache la Poudre River in the Canyon Lakes Ranger District of Roosevelt National Forest. The campground sits at 6,500 feet elevation in a ponderosa pine forest, roughly 40 miles northwest of Fort Collins via Highway 14. The Cache la Poudre was designated Colorado's first National Wild and Scenic River, and the campground provides direct access to its renowned whitewater rafting and trout fishing for brown, cutthroat, and rainbow trout. The campground contains 54 sites split between electric and non-electric options. Sites 1-32 feature electrical hookups and are reservable through Recreation.gov, while sites 33-54 are non-electric and operate first-come, first-served. Each site includes a tent pad, fire grate, and picnic table, with parking spurs ranging from 35 to 45 feet. Amenities include vault toilets, drinking water from hand pumps, and coin-operated showers. On-site recreation facilities include volleyball and basketball courts, a playground, and horseshoe pits. Nearby trails include the Mt. McConnel Trail, William R. Kreutzer National Recreation Trail, and Young Gulch Trail, all accessible for hiking, biking, and horseback riding. The campground is in bear country, so proper food storage is required and firewood must be obtained locally rather than brought from outside the area.

Directions

From Fort Collins, drive 10 miles north on US Highway 287. Turn left (west) onto Colorado Highway 14 and continue approximately 23 miles to the campground at mile marker 98.8.
