About

Longwood Park is a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers campground situated on John H. Kerr Reservoir, a 50,000-acre lake extending 39 miles along the wooded, cove-studded shoreline of the Roanoke River in Virginia and North Carolina. Created with the construction of the John H. Kerr Dam in 1952, the reservoir is also known as Buggs Island Lake. The campground features 66 forested sites on the Grassy Creek section of the lake, providing plenty of shade and direct access to water recreation. The lake is widely known for excellent fishing opportunities, with largemouth bass, striped bass, crappie, and flathead catfish available. Surrounding public lands offer 26 Wildlife Management Areas for hunting, hiking, wildlife viewing, and birding. Game species include whitetail deer, wild turkey, bobwhite quail, mourning dove, gray squirrel, cottontail rabbit, fox, raccoon, and waterfowl including wood duck, black duck, mallard, and Canadian geese. Longwood Park is located just 10 minutes from Clarksville, Virginia, where shopping, gas, and groceries are available. Clarksville Marina is approximately 15 minutes away by highway or 30 minutes by water. The campground offers a convenient base for exploring the extensive recreation opportunities around one of Virginia's largest lakes.
