About
Long Leaf Horse Camp is a rustic equestrian campground located in the De Soto National Forest, approximately 15 miles southeast of Laurel, Mississippi. The campground serves as the gateway to the Longleaf Horse Trail system, a multi-purpose trail network that winds through a pristine longleaf pine ecosystem. The trail system features three distinct loops marked with different colors for easy navigation, totaling 21 miles of trails suitable for horseback riding, hiking, mountain biking, and horse wagons. Each loop offers varying distances, allowing riders to customize their experience based on skill level and time available. The campground provides basic amenities including vault toilets, parking areas suitable for horse trailers, and picnic tables at each site. This is a primitive camping experience with no potable water available on-site, so visitors must bring their own water supply. The camp operates on a first-come, first-served basis at $3 per night per site, with cash or check payment required. Interagency Senior and Access Pass holders receive a 50% discount on single campsites.
