About

Long Leaf Horse Camp sits at the trailhead of the Longleaf Horse Trail in the Chickasawhay Ranger District of De Soto National Forest. The trail system spans 21 miles across three color-coded loops, accommodating horseback riders, hikers, mountain bikers, and horse-drawn wagons through scenic longleaf pine habitat. The camp provides 12 primitive sites, each outfitted with a picnic table, fire ring with grill, and hitching post for horses. Vault toilets serve the area, with at least one being ADA accessible. Campers must bring their own drinking water as none is available on-site. Gator Pond, located at the trailhead, can be used to water horses but riders must stay off the pond dam. Fishing is available at Gator Pond for catfish, bluegill, and bass, though a Mississippi wildlife management area permit and fishing license are required. Electric-motor-only boating is permitted but there is no boat ramp.
