About

Big Foot Horse Camp is a free, primitive equestrian camping facility located in the De Soto Ranger District of the National Forests in Mississippi. The camp provides access to the Big Foot Horse Trail, a moderate 23.7-mile trail system consisting of four loops ranging from 5 to 11 miles each. Riders can combine loops to create rides of nearly any desired length, and since most trails run parallel to roads, entry points are flexible. The camp offers basic amenities geared toward horse camping: parking areas, hitching rails, vault toilets, picnic tables, and grills. Potable drinking water is not available for campers. Horses can access water from two ponds and Tuxachanie Creek on the property. The area is set within the characteristic southern pine ridges and hardwood bottoms of the De Soto National Forest. The camp operates year-round unless weather conditions force temporary closures. No fees or reservations are required. A 7-day stay limit applies, and alcoholic beverages are prohibited.
