About

Coon Creek is a large, well-equipped campground situated on the western shore of Lake Shelbyville in central Illinois. The facility features 181 campsites, all equipped with electric hookups, with approximately half available for advance reservation through Recreation.gov. The campground is heavily forested with oak and hickory trees providing substantial shade throughout the facility. Modern amenities include flush toilets, hot showers, dump stations, and a swimming beach. Recreational facilities include a playground, bicycle pump track, basketball court, and sand volleyball court. A 0.7-mile Hide N Seek Nature Trail offers opportunities to explore the lakefront environment. The on-site boat ramp provides direct access to Lake Shelbyville's waters. Lake Shelbyville offers exceptional fishing opportunities for catfish, crappie, largemouth bass, muskie, walleye, white bass, and bluegill. The surrounding area features diverse wildlife including numerous songbird species, shorebirds, waterfowl, raptors, white-tailed deer, and various small mammals. Fall foliage displays vibrant colors as oak and hickory leaves turn red, orange, purple, and yellow. Nearby hunting areas offer opportunities for quail, rabbit, pheasant, deer, dove, turkey, waterfowl, and woodcock.

From Shelbyville: Drive 4.5 miles north on State Route 128 to County Road 1750 N. Turn right and drive 0.9 miles to County Road 1900 E. Turn left and go 0.35 miles to County Road 1785 N. Turn right and drive 1.75 miles to County Road 2075 E. Turn right and go 1.7 miles to the facility.
